Playgroup WA Membership
Playgroup WA provides annual (calendar year) membership in four main categories:
Playgroup WA Family Membership – for families who attend community playgroups that are registered with Playgroup WA. The annual membership covers the whole family and you can go to as many Playgroup WA playgroups or sessions as you like, under the one family membership. A family membership is $35 per year (Concession Card $15).
A community playgroup becomes registered as a Playgroup WA family playgroup when at least three families from the playgroup have registered their family membership with Playgroup WA. The benefits include playgroup insurance (covers playgroup property, personal accident and public liability), development support for the playgroup, and promotion of the playgroup, including listing on the Playgroup WA website Find a Playgroup search function. There are also additional member benefits for families, such as events, discounts, promotions and competitions. For more information on Playgroup WA membership, click here.
Playgroup WA Volunteer Membership – for someone who attends a Playgroup WA family playgroup without children. Volunteers can take on leadership roles or simply attend playgroup sessions, helping with the running of the playgroup. This can often suit a person who wants to help in their community, such as someone who has retired from work. A volunteer must be registered as a Volunteer member to be covered by insurance, but there is no Playgroup WA annual fee. Currently, people who volunteer with playgroups without children are required to have a Working with Children check. For more information on Working With Children (WWC), please visit the page on Child Protection. As requirements around WWC can change, always check the Department website for clarification.
Playgroup WA Associate Playgroup Membership – this is for a community playgroup that is provided with some operational support, including insurance coverage, by another legal entity. The organisation's staff may assist the operation of the playgroup sessions but are not directly funded to operate a supported playgroup.
This type of playgroup membership is suited to playgroups that are connected to an organisation, and do not require insurance but would like to be listed on the Playgroup WA website, invited to events and receive Playgroup WA newsletters. The Playgroup WA Associate Playgroup membership is just for the playgroup itself. Individual families who attend these playgroups are not registered with Playgroup WA, they do not pay the annual family membership fee to Playgroup WA and are not covered by Playgroup WA insurance.
Playgroup WA Professional Playgroup Membership – this is a supported playgroup, run by an organisation, with a paid facilitator, as part of a funded program. This membership is for the playgroup itself and includes the benefits of having the playgroup listed on the Playgroup WA website and referrals via the Playgroup WA hotline. The playgroup organisation receives Playgroup WA newsletters and is invited to Playgroup WA events. Individual families who attend these playgroups are not registered with Playgroup WA, they do not pay the annual family membership fee to Playgroup WA and are not covered by Playgroup WA insurance.
